| The four of them had probably ran out of bad luck, because the river wasn't too deep into the jungle - it barely took a two-minutes walk to reach it. It was narrow, and maybe they would have had more space if they had walked a bit more and tried to find the waterfall, but they didn't have any time for it.
William helped Gabe sit on a mossy rock nearby.
"Michael, would you mind taking care of him? I'll check how Tom's arm is."
He sincerely hoped that Michael didn't know William had zero medical knowledge. He simply wanted to make sure Tom was alright; he needed to see it for himself.

| Michael let Tom down gently, more gently than someone else who was insulted by the person he was helping might have been. He followed Beckett's orders and moved over to Gabe although he wasn't sure exactly what he was supposed to be doing.
Cleaning the wound maybe? That seemed logical. What would he use to do that? He took off his shirt since it was the only cloth he had on him and inspected it. It wasn't too bloody. William was shirtless too so he went with his idea. They'd all be shirtless before too long probably, maybe even naked... How were they supposed to find new garments out here in this wilderness?
Hopefully somebody's suitcase would wash ashore... | |

| William wasn't surprised to see that the belt that held the splint together was partly ripped off from the shock. The angle at which Tom's arm was placed seemed to be horribly painful.
He was taken aback when he noticed that Tom's eyes were open. He didn't know what to tell him to erase his own guilt.
"Are you fully conscious or just pretending to be?"
It was utterly stupid and childish, but all he could think of was how much he wished he could hold Tom close to him, just once, and apologize for everything.
He knew he wouldn't feel that way in the next minute, but it didn't matter.

| Michael tried to think of what else Gabe might need as he took some time to clean his own head. The bleeding had mostly stopped so he didn't feel the need to tie anything over the wound, at least not at the moment. | |

He untied the splint. The piece of wood, probably rotten, had taken the shape of Tom's arm. He could use it to carry water.

Oh, William knew that look. A look that meant trouble. It was familiar. It was oddly similar the look that had motivated the most important decision he had ever taken.
Thankfully, Michael spoke before he could jump to conclusions.
"We can use Gabe's hoodie and make a tent. Death to the purple!" He grinned at the man's horrified look. "Seriously, we'll have to find a shelter, or build something in case it rains or...well, whatever happens, you know? There's only four of us so far, so it won't be much work if we all contribute."

| William stopped for a moment, and took the time to clean his own cut that would probably leave a scar under his left eye for a while. A nice reminder, he thought.
Tom's attention was entirely on Michael, and he didn't even try to hide it the least.

| Michael didn't really know what was going on with William and Tom, but after staring at Tom's arm and Gabe's leg he wondered how his own head looked.
He decided he'd had enough for the moment and laid down close enough to Gabe that he could hear if he called but far enough away so Gabe could touch him or grope him while he was resting.
