Sisky moved to his side when he heard the sound. "William?" He knelt next to the older man and ran his fingers though William's hair.

William laughed, but pushed Sisky away as he coughed again. This time, the blood dripped on the shirt, but there was less of it.
"I think I ruined it." He pouted.

If I stay calm it'll go away. I don't want to frighten Sisky.

Sisky's eyes widened as he watched. He tried to smile, voice quavering as he said, "I think it's safe to say it was ruined before you ever put it on."

Oh God. What if he has cancer? Or tuberculosis? Or a disease nobody has a name for yet?

"Ah, but I liked it," he said, his voice lower than usual. He coughed once more, but the blood didn't pass his lips - it dribbled down the corner of his mouth. He managed a faint smile, unaware of it.

William tried to formulate a witty comeback, but the pain in his chest and throat was too strong to let him talk. He started breathing very slowly, inhaling loudly.

"William, relax," Sisky rubbed William's chest.

If he gets any worse I'm running for help even though I don't know what anyone else is going to do. It would make me feel more useful.

William clutched Sisky's shirt and nodded, trying to tell him that he was going to be fine. His throat was dry and it felt like something was constricting it, but his breathing had gotten quieter.

It's almost over...fuck, I didn't want to scare him.

Sisky used one hand to cup William's cheek and the other to peel off one of the hands clutching his shirt to hold it.
