Tom kissed his forehead and moved his gaze to his chuckling daughter.

Michael frowned in his sleep and muttered, "What... do you mean?"

Tom's brow furrowed, but right then Marlee tried to chew Mikko's ear off, and that was more alarming for him.

"James?" Michael muttered before his face relaxed again and he slept dreamlessly.

The younger man stared at him curiously. Marlee whacked him with Mikko.

Michael stirred slightly, starting to come to from his sleep.

"Ssh." Tom muttered to Marlee. He pushed his lover's curls out his eyes. "Good morning sleeping beauty."

"Morning," Michael mumbled, opening his eyes and smiling at Tom. As he did so the memory of his dream came rushing back to him.

"She's moved on to hitting me with toys now. So you're safe." Tom knew he was babbling a bit, but he was unsure of the look in his lover's eyes.

"Just a bad dream." Michael looked down at Marlee. "Beating him up too now?"

Marlee gave him a gummy smile, chewing on Mikko's paw. Tom was still uncertain.

Michael turned his eyes back to Tom, his smile softening until it was barely still in place, "I love you."

Tom looked at him certainly and opened his mouth to reply. His voice died. "You too." He croaked out.

"You're both beautiful," Michael followed Tom's eyes down to the happy little girl with the bear.

Tom grunted. He was spared from answering as Marlee hit him with Mikko again.

"Like being threatened with your own gun." Tom murmured. "Only slightly less painful, and not very scary." The little girl squeaked angrily, as though she could understand him, and hit him again. "Oww..."

Tom relaxed slightly at the sound of Michael's voice, pulling his daughter into his arms. He accidentally knocked her head against the top of the seats and she wailed loudly.

Michael stuck his head out from under the seats and looked around, the river looked a little swollen but luckily it didn't come up too far.
