William unzipped the top of his suitcase and put a skinny arm inside. "Well, I don't know. Mikey seems pretty busy and, erm, blind. Someone needs to watch over you, and right now that someone is me. Like it or not." He smiled, hoping forgiveness. "Besides, it's been a while since it's been just you and me."

Marlee's fist hit Tom's chest. "We're not alone!" he laughed, staring down at his daughter. "And try telling that to Mikey. He still looks after me."

William sighed, somewhat amused. "You know what I mean." He unzipped his suitcase a bit lower for easier access to what he was looking for. "Mikey can't look after you," he whispered under his breath. Finally, he took out a pile of clothes wrapped around an undetermined well-hidden object. "There it is."

Tom nodded. "There what is?" He asked thoughtfully, boosting Marlee up in his arms.

William grinned. "I carry my own weapons around for when I'm scared." He took off the clothes to reveal a bottle of whiskey. "Hey, if Marlee can't sleep, I can give her some," he joked.

Tom laughed. "Drugging a baby?" He raised an eyebrow. "Now I understand why single fathers get so frustrated!"

"Ah, come on!" William opened the bottle, which seemed pretty huge between his fingers, and put it to his lips, drinking a first sip. He had seriously missed the warm feeling in his throat. "Do you want some?"

"For you, not the kid," William confirmed, and placed the bottle in Tom's lap. "The key is not drinking enough to be completely drunk, but just enough to forget about whatever's bothering you."

Tom snorted and placed Marlee in William's suitcase. He sat down and took a swig from it. "Are you still a lightweight?" He handed it back.

"Last time I checked," William answered as he took the bottle. He drank more, and put the bottle down between himself and Tom. "Why?"

Good thing it's not representative of my alcohol tolerance. William noticed Tom looking at the whiskey. "Take all you want," he offered. "Fuck your pills - this is the best medecine you'll find."

Tom laughed. "My thoughts exactly." He drank from it again, the taste of William still on the bottle. "And anyway, I'm currently not on medication."

"Honestly, I think that's a good thing. It's not like you have something to be afraid of on this island." He shrugged. "Even Gabe cares about you. You take care of Marlee, we take care of you. Like a big dysfunctional family."

"Gabe?" Tom raised an eyebrow, putting the bottle back before he tipped it over. "But, I know Pete sure has no love for me."

"He's just not that fond of you because he's jealous of what there is between you and Michael. I guess the Aussie still loves you." William tapped his fingernails on the bottle. "But Pete worries too, I'm sure."

"Did you not see his face when Mikey and I were arguing?" He wrestled the bottle out of the younger man's grip. "He was loving every moment of it."

"Wouldn't you? I mean - hypothetical situation: Michael loves you and Pete, but he's dating Pete. The lovey-dovey couple gets in a fight and break up. Wouldn't you show some kind of happiness...?" He stared at the bottle.

William chuckled. "I know, I found out the hard way. But seriously, Tom - one day you'll find someone could can't live without, and love will bitch-slap you in the face. I hope you're mentally prepared for that eventuality."
