Tom lazily watched Jeannie as she chased a butterfly around the beach, barking happily. He didn't look at the other men. He suddenly had such a powerful yearning for Mikey. A tear cut across his cheek and landed in the sand. But he didn't think anyone saw.

William stopped playing, and just gazed at Tom. He looked so distant, suddenly.
"I want to know how to make him happy," he whispered. "I want to be the one who does that."

Michael grabbed a handfull of sand and used his fingers to sift through it for random bits of seaweed, rock, and shell. He couldn't intrude. He couldn't admit that maybe he felt something for Tom when it was obvious that William cared for him so much. Michael just would get over it.

He wondered if there was some kind of shellfish or crab that lived on this beach and could be harvested.

"We look up and we're squinting at the sun..." Tom sang again, yawning. "Mikey has a way with words." He told Jeannie. "He's the most amazing person ever. You'll meet him soon. And you'll hopefully like him better than Bear does." Jeannie yapped. "I like you." Tom rubbed her stomach. "You love me without me having to do anything."

Wiliam stood up, and handed Michael the guitar. "No more puppy-slaughter for me today. I don't feel too well. I'll go for a walk."

The only thing he really felt like was walking in the sea to the bottom without ever taking his breath, but it was only a feeling, not an actual wish.

Michael gave William an apologetic look and a quick hug. "I'll be right here."

He nodded, and gave him a weak smile. "Thanks."
I'm not sure you'd be here if you knew what happened with Gabe earlier.

He slolwy dragged his feet in the sand, heading back to the jungle.

Michael sat near Tom to watch him play with his puppy. He had heard what Tom told her and it was true. He felt guilty when he realized it. He knew he never would have started to feel the way he was beginning to if Tom hadn't touched him.

As long as they didn't touch he would be fine. He would be happy for William. That's what friends do.

Gabe had stayed in the woods, his back on a tree. He had put himself back into decent dressing. And he sighed.

He had stayed there because he knew it was done for. I'm fucked. It's over. He rubbed his forehead; and put his necklace back into place. Hope you enjoyed the moment, Saporta. He looked up at the rustling leaves above him.
"What the hell is wrong with this son-of-a-bitch of an island, anyways?!" he yelled. No response. Gabe smiled.
Look what you're making me do, William. And he yawned, turned over and fell asleep.

Tom yawned and closed his eyes. Seemingly just as tired, Jeannie curled up next to him. The two fell asleep.

Michael moved closer quietly so he wouldn't wake them up and pushed Tom's hair out of his face. He sat back to keep an eye on the tide and the trees to make sure nothing would come to disturb the man and the puppy.

Tom awoke from his dream with a grunt. Jeannie also seemed to be dreaming. He wondered what she was dreaming about.
"Michael?" He whispered, his voice cracking.

"Yeah?" Michael leaned closer so Tom could see him. "Did you have a bad dream?"

"I had it again." He bit his lip. "And I still don't understand it. It's really beginning to bug me."

"Did you change colors again?" Michael reached out to brush some sand off of Tom's face so it wouldn't go in his eyes now that they were opened.

He nodded. "The red one... he didn't interact. He just... He didn't even move." He bit his lip. "Hey, if you were any colour, what colour would you want to be?"

Michael smiled. "What color? Any color?" He wondered if this was about the blobs or some kind of test.

"Never mind." Tom huffed. "Hey, what's your pain tolerance like?"

Michael lifted his hand to his head. "Pretty high."

"Ok." Tom leant backwards and pulled a penknife out his pocket. "Give me your hand."

Michael looked at it, worry flickering across his face, but he gave his hand anyways. He trusted Tom not to kill him or hurt him too much. If that trust was misplaced then it was all on him. He'd take the blame.

Tom looked at Michael's hand thoughtfully, before gently pressing the penknife to the inside of his wrist, pushing down quite hard.

Michael's eyes widened at the pain, but he didn't cry out. He just looked at Tom with trusting eyes, hoping there was a good reason for this.

Tom then dropped Michael's hand to his lap, making the Australian blush as he watched the slow ooze of blood stain the crotch of Tom's jeans. The bipolar placed the knife between his teeth and brought his own hand up to drag it along. He groaned as the skin didn't catch.

"Tom?" Michael watched then blushed some more when he realized he hadn't moved his hand yet and took it back slowly. He could't say exactly why he was so hesitant; the excuse was something like: it hurt and when things hurt you move them slowly.
