A small 'you never know' smile played at Michael's lips as he simply said, "We're still alive."

"Not for much longer if I have my way." Tom growled quietly. He cocked the safety catch off his gun and pointed it straight at Michael. "And you don't know how to shoot." He chuckled.

Michael stiffened in disbelief, "You don't want to do this."

"You don't know anything about me." Tom snarled. He moved the gun slightly and shot. The bullet grazed Michael's cheek and lodged itself in a pig. "Food tonight." The American smirked and staggered forwards. He stopped when he got to Michael and patted his cheek. "You're next." He whispered.

Michael raised a hand to his face and looked back and forth between Tom and the dead pig in shock. "You..."

"Forgotten my name?" Tom chuckled. "You'll remember it soon enough. It'll be carved on your heart, when I'm done with you." He raised his middle finger and smirked.

Michael frowned slightly, "What?"

Tom moved his hand so his middle finger was now facing the sky. "Oh dear." He sighed. "I insulted your God. What are you going to do?" He turned his stone grey eyes on the other man.

Michael looked up at the sky and winced at the surprising brightness of the sun through the leaves.

What had happened? What had he done wrong? They had seemed to be getting along just fine before now. Before this moment.

He decided not to say anything to further provoke Tom. He didn't know what to do. It was like somebody had turned the tables and suddenly he was the helpless one.

Tom seized his moment when Michael looked up to the sky. He pulled his gun from his pocket and jammed it against his jaw. He pulled the trigger...

Michael's head snapped down, "Tom?!"

Tom screamed in anger as the mechanism jammed. "I guess you caught me." He said quietly. "Is that your God's punishment? I thought he was benevolent?" He turned away and began to sob silently into his good arm, leaning on a tree.

"Tom?" Michael repeated, this time without the edge of fear in his voice.

He moved closer to the sobbing man. "What's wrong?" Stupid question...

"Sorry. Stupid question," Michael smiled and moved closer. Frowned... Shifted uncomfortably... He wasn't sure if he should hug Tom again. Putting a hand on his shoulder at least wouldn't hurt him, right?

"You don't want to touch me." Tom whispered. "Not if you knew what I was. Not if you knew what I was going to do."

Michael took that as an invitation and wrapped his arms around Tom for a quick hug. "Doesn't matter."

Michael looked around hesitantly. He didn't want to move away too fast and upset Tom, but they had been in the jungle for quite some time. He thought that William might be worried about them. He was also hoping they could find some more survivors or at least try to salvage something useful.

Tom picked up his gun off the floor and shoved it in his pocket. "You never know." He muttered in answer to Michael's unspoken question. He grabbed two of the pig's legs and began to drag it out the jungle.

Michael shifted his shelter supplies so they would be more comfortable to carry and followed Tom. Watching him for any warning signs just in case.
