"That's exactly what I said," William replied in a soft, quiet voice. "Forever." He rubbed his cheek on Gabe's chest until he was comfortable.

Gabe unconsciously brought his legs slightly closer to the rest of his body and hugged William like a plush toy. "Sometimes... when I got depressed or beat, I'd think that somehow something would happen to balance it out. I think that was true. Because being stuck on this island led me to you. And so it isn't so bad." He smiled, his eyes still shut. "I always ramble before I go to sleep."

William kissed the spot of Gabe's skin already closer to his lips. "I agree." I'd do it all over again just to be like this with you. He yawned again. "Sleep," he mumbled.

Gabe yawned as well. "Yes," he mumbled back. He let his head loll to the side; his fingers locked into each other over William's back. Who would have thought I'd be falling asleep in the sand with William Beckett in my arms instead of performing on stage. Bah. It's an equal pleasure.

I love you, Gabe. William sighed contently and fell asleep an instant later.

Gabe felt William's weight slacken. He opened his eyes and smiled. He's already asleep. He softly played with the man's hair. I wonder what you're dreaming of right now. He closed his eyes.

William whimpered in his sleep like he was talking to someone.

Gabe opened an eye. If only I could see. He stayed motionless and looked at William's changing expressions.

William suddenly clung to Gabe's body. "Go away while you still can," he said very clearly, as if he was perfectly lucid.

Gabe's brow furrowed. "What?" he whispered. He brought his face closer, as if doing so would make him hear more. He listened.

William's gripped slackened. "You're losing eveyone for me." His voice was lower, sorrowful.

"They haven't called since we started living together," William explained, frowning. "They don't think we should be together."

Gabe swallowed. "Who, Will? Who hasn't been calling? Why don't they want us to be together?" His hand reached out for the younger man's hand and gripped it softly.

William's voice went back to incoherent mumbling. "Everyone. My...your friends. Everyone." His features softened for a moment before his nose wrinkled. "Bad for eachother's health. I think Alex hates me."

So it's still about Alex? "How is it bad for our health? Why does Alex hate you?" His face was now merely an inch away from William's.

"Mike's pissed because I left the band. And you're never happy anymore. Why...?" William seemed to have drawn a line between the Gabe that was holding him and the one of his dreams, having relatively similiar conversations with the two.

"You left the band? Why did you do that?" He squeezed William's hand. "I'm happy..." he started.

William whispered almost inaudibly. "I'm sorry. You know me...I drink when I'm lonely. There's still an emptiness you can't fill. Don't cry, Gabe..."

Gabe backed away. "I'm not crying," he said. Yet. He shook his hand lightly. "Are you saying that no matter what, I won't be able to make you fully happy?"

William must have felt a loss of contact; his hands tried to grasp Gabe's arm. "But are you going to call when I move out?"

"I'll call," Gabe said. He felt his eyes burning. "You're going to leave me, then?" I should have known. He kept holding the younger singer's hand as he listened. His eyes, however, stared forward.

William nodded. "I don't want to be alone," he mumbled. He loosened his grip on Gabe and let his head fall on the man's chest.

Gabe kissed William's forehead. "Okay," he said. "If that's what you want. I don't want to be the cause of your unhappiness. I'll leave," he whispered. He slowly slid himself from under William and carefully handled the man's head to lay it in the sand. He sat against a tree and watched the horizon, occasionally glancing towards William. I'm still going to protect you until we get back, even if you don't want me to.
